Today is (officially) my last day of work at the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma. I worked there for five years (minus one month) as the Marketing Evangelism Specialist (3 yrs) and Church Planting Media Strategist (2 yrs). I thoroughly enjoyed working there, but now am stepping out to work on my coaching and consulting through MMC full time.
Some of my best memories of the BGCO will be from the days I spent working on the Oklahoma Life advertising campaign, including the (thoroughly researched and tested) great commercial we made! In addition to the media, we mobilized hundreds of Oklahoma Baptist churches to reach 650,000 homes in a single day with an evangelistic outreach.
I also enjoyed the work of developing the Internet evangelism projects, including www.MostImportantThing.org, www.MajorThing.com , www.code2life.com , and I will never forget the 10 state road trip I made with my friend Alan Quigley.
From the “You have not because you ask not category,” a simple note:
I already have a several great projects underway right now, lately I have been doing a lot of work with larger ministries and mission organizations. But if you know of any ministry or faith-based nonprofit who could use some help with marketing, keep me in mind. My resume is on my FaceBook profile and I am on LinkedIn.com
Projects I’d like to do:
Market Research: Everybody does research to find out what people need and what will work in marketing and promotions. Don’t believe me? It’s true by default. Some people just don’t realize it because they launch out with a neat idea and a prayer. Then, if the ministry idea flops or flies they learn if it works or not. That’s a backward research approach.
I prefer to learn as much as I can before I spend all the money and time on promotional tools and ideas that won’t work. It may seem costly to test new ideas, conduct surveys, focus groups, interviews, etc. But research actually saves money by reducing wasted expenditures. Besides money, research helps save time. It usually takes a long time to realize and admit that a “great” idea is not so great after all.
Marketing Project Management: When I take on a project to manage, I stay on task until the ministry gets the results they are after. I work hard to understand the ministry objectives and suggest ways to make them happen. Many times I am able to help add the extra angle that takes the ministry to the next level. Being in ministry since 1989, I can integrate the minister’s needs with sound marketing discipline.
Media Production and Creative Development: Let me help you develop promotional material that are marketing savvy and professionally designed. I can help you develop logos, brochures, websites, video, display ads—anything you need. I can do it all because I have developed a strategic network of partnerships with media production professionals that enable me to save you a lot of money!
Marketing Training Seminars: The Ministry Marketing Coach™ Seminar can help you learn to develop and deliver effective marketing communication that will get the word out, get attention, and invite response from the people you want to reach. My surprisingly simple communication strategy training can help you learn to break through the clutter so you can start building relationships with the people you want to reach.
Ministry Marketing Coaching: You don’t need generic cookie cutter materials from Christian marketing catalogs. You may be surprised to learn that you already have within you what you need to know to make sound marketing decisions. If you haven’t been making them now, it’s because you haven’t developed the marketing mind-set and don’t practice sound marketing disciplines. I will help you develop and deliver your own marketing communications through marketing coaching.
