Some churches play hard to get!

  • Websites don’t list any contact information
  • Worship Service times are not on the telephone responder
  • Service hours are not on on a sign near the front door or on the road.

Here is one low-cost idea that you can use to help advertise your church and raise awareness in the community.

Print up business cards that are about the church — not a person or the pastor, but about the church.

Include items like service times, a phone number for the office, maybe a map, your website.

Print them by the thousands for your members to give away. My church in Richmond did this and I was giving away several each week or so to people that I’d see in line, customer service people in fast food joints, or people standing around pumping their gas.

Here is a sample from my church in Richmond.

invitacion-card.jpg

  • It features the church name
  • Worship times
  • And a map.

The back contains phone numbers and website information.

You can print these by the thousands for your members to give away.

People may not be comfortable talking about their faith, but many are excited to invite people to church. This gives you a tool to put in the hands of your members to help them invite others.

Let me ask you this; what kinds of invitation tools do you use?

[...] I love to find creative ways to use media in the church. As a guy who spent time working in marketing, and has a passion for it as well, I know that word of mouth is by far the most substantial method of advertising. One of the things we try and do at Frederick is find creative ways to promote word of mouth marketing. I was reading, not too long ago, Mark Batterson’s blog and came across a great idea about using invite cards in a unique way. We took the concept and applied it to our local setting and came up with a very exciting idea, I believe. I wanted to share it with you in case you would like to use it in your church. This is an idea that can be used in any size church for almost no cost. I saw that my friend Chris Forbes posted something very similiar this morning so it reminded me to post it on here. [...]

I think you are moving in the right direction with the church invitation cards…but lets not forget, church evangelism isn’t about inviting people to church as if we’re implying that’s the only place that they can experience God or hear the good news. Evangelism is about going out and telling others the ‘good news’ and why we live like we do…just like what occured in the New Testament. Jesus’ last words were for us to go out and spread the good news!! As for the last statement: “People may not be comfortable talking about their faith, but many are excited to invite people to church,”… lets not forget that our job as Christians goes beyond ‘inviting’people to church and into the ‘telling others’ why we even go to church. We might not be comfortable with it, but based on Matt 28, its our responsiblity. In the meantime, great thought…Lets take it one step further!

Thanks Cory. We agree, that’s why there is more than one article treating evangelism on the blog. :-)
