The Resonate Group Principal, Kerry Bural, enjoys using the word intentional to describe the optimal mindset for ones actions. In search engine optimization, being intentional means you not only have to have a keyword goal but you also have to have a strategy. As obvious as that may sound, you would be amazed at how many churches and ministries simply assume that SEO will follow dramatic graphics and zesty catch phrases.

My father was in the Navy and, in typical military fashion, whenever there was an upset over the balance of responsibilities in the house he would direct us all to his white board for a strategic breakdown. Common questions during the meeting of the parental joint-chiefs were:

  • What are you assuming is not your responsibility?
  • Are there things you would rather someone else do?
  • Who or what is keeping you from accomplishing your responsibilities?

Church and ministry websites require the same attention! An individual or group of individuals must be assigned to SEO to maintain fresh traffic to your website. If there are responsibilities you feel less qualified to accomplish, mention it to your team and it is likely that you will find someone to step in the gap. Last, identify any hindrances that are keeping you and your team from accomplishing God’s direction for your ministry.

Search Engine Optimization is not easy though it offers an insane amount of opportunities for your church or ministry to flourish. But, you must be strategic and intentional about feeding What Google Values!

This series has been created with the intent of helping churches and ministries leverage their online presence. It’s an integral part of our service to you to educate you with the tools and tactics necessary for your church or ministry site to flourish. If you would like more information or see a need for additional help for your team, please don’t hesitate to email us. At The Resonate Group, we’re passionate about our ministry improving yours.
