Name Dropping: Why I think Oklahoma is the Epicenter of the Church Marketing Conversation
By chris | August 9, 2007
Today is my birthday! This is the big 44, or as my wife says, the “last birthday” before I am “over the hill.” Anyway, I have a fun day planned.
I am going to drive to Tulsa (the “Paris of Oklahoma“) with my Rockin’ Cool friend Cory Miller from ChurchCommunicationsPro.com (who is mentioned in Penelope Trunk’s blog recently for his blogging skills) to meet and hang out with Co-owner of BombayCreative.com Kent Shaffer from ChurchRelevance.com whose blog was named in the Top 50 Marketing blogs by no less than Ad Age. Both guys have helped put Oklahoma on the church marketing map.
Since they are getting so famous, and it’s my birthday, I think I’ll make them pay.
Outreach Road Shows in OKC and Tulsa
Also, my friend John Berglund from OutreachTraining.com called me and told me he’s ramped up and ready to do two Outreach Road Shows in Oklahoma City and Tulsa respectively on Aug 14th and 16th. The seminars go from 9 till 12:30 and the cost is just $39. Outreach will do free demographics for the churches that attend and offer two of their Outreach Magazines for free. John says each attendee will get $156 worth of resources. John will cover the famous “4 Laws of effective Outreach” and he says Outreach has added some new material to the presentation so it should be worth it even if you have been before. It’s a good deal and worth your time and investment. So if you are in Oklahoma, consider going.
Behold, Oklahoma is the “Omphalos” of the Church Marketing Conversation!
Oklahoma is the place to be in church marketing. When you think about it, Oklahoma is OK when it comes to church communications. In addition to Cory and Kent the Sooner state also has Terry Storch, Terrell Sanders, Jay Kelly, Jeff Wilson, I could go on, and on and not even say anything about the litany of Okie bloggers, too numerous to mention who are changing the conversation in the SBC. Scratch anything that’s cool in minsitry communications and you’ll find someone in the background or forefront from the Sooner state!
Y’all need to come see us in Oklahoma. I am just saying!
