Could your church newsletter be your church’s outreach communications sleeping giant?
By chris | August 17, 2007
Most churches have print newsletters they send out each week in an almost automatic fashion. Sometimes it seems the newsletter goes out with very little thought for how it might be used differently to make an impact in the community. The newsletter is very often the only connection many unchurched people have to the church because many congregations subscribe their visitors to their newsletters. Thus, the church newsletter is often, unwittingly, the single most targeted media many churches use, that they don’t know reaches the unchurched.
Could your church newsletter be your church’s outreach communications sleeping giant? Proverbs 31 Ministries took their one-color newsletter, printed from a home computer and folded by volunteers in someone’s living room, to a full-color magazine reaching women around the country. Could there be such potential locked away in your stodgy old newsletter?
Glynnis Whitwer is the Senior Editor of the P31 Woman magazine from Proverbs 31 Ministries who wants to help you realize the full potential of your church newsletter. She will lead a workshop called Revamping Your Newsletter at MinistryCOM in Nashville September 13-14. She shared with us a few thoughts from her workshop.
